Bubs has a summer camp this week so Peanut and I have had mornings to ourselves. She recently learned to ride her bike without training wheels, and has been zipping up and down the street in front of our house. I haven’t taken her on the greenway near our neighborhood yet because I didn’t think she had the leg muscle stamina to handle the sloping hills.
She did a great job, and I was able to activate some of those “slow twitch” muscles. We went in about 1.7 miles before she said she was starting to feel it. The trouble was she had to push herself to get back to our car because there was literally no way I could do it for her. I feel like this may be a metaphor for life.
There were hills, and she struggled on most of them. She got really angry at one point because her foot slipped off her pedal. But she didn’t give up. If the hill was too hard, she didn’t stop. She walked her bike to the top and got back on.
My kid is a BA!
I love the idea that my kids are watching me make better decisions and are following along. Peanut is actively choosing water over Capri Sun pouches these days. It may not seem like a big thing, but having the family buy in to this journey makes it so much easier.
